I stumbled on Gestalt. I thought hey this is interesting, then I noticed it required users to install Silverlight, then I noticed the Microsoft email address.... my heart sank. What a waste of my time!

Now if you look back at almost everything that has come out of Microsoft (proper) in the past decade, you'd realize the stupidity of your argument. Funny how that totally open source IronRuby and IronPython used by Firefox tamarin is bult by microsoft. Funny microsoft made it work on Firefox b4 the firfox ppl did. What Ruby or Python projects is made by Firefox? Or Chrome? But those guys love Ruby and Python, right? We can trust them to take care of us! LOL

Personally I would love to see Python run in the browser. That said, since both Python and Ruby are mainly used outside Microsoft land, and since you are saying we have to use Silverlight to use it, what makes you think any serious people from the Python/Ruby camp are going to go anywhere near it with a bargepole?

We've all been burnt far too many times by Microsoft for any of us to trust you guys.

Thanks for the great writeup (and thanks for creating Scripting.Silverlight that we used in Gestalt, and all the last-minute help :-))

Your characterization of the pros and cons of the Gestalt-style activation model is spot-on. We might find some more as people play with it, but you nailed the ones I know about. I salivate to think of this model merged with all the other features in Scripting.Silverlight -- even interactive console support would be a big plus.
