Hi, I am now trying to use COM object by IronPython in browser, but it seems not work...

I find an tutorial about interacting with Excel using IronPython: http://www.ironpython.info/index.php/Interacting_with_Excel

I only tried the following three lines but it just didn't work..

clr.AddReferenceByName('Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c')
from Microsoft.Office.Interop import Excel

I want to know if there are restrictions when using IronPython in browser?

What I really want to do is to use the fileSystemObject, I know this works in Python, but does it work by IronPython in browser too?

@david A web-server is required as Silverlight's sandbox requires the IronPython code to run in an internet domain (localhost included), but not the local domain (directly from the file-system). So, if you have IIS installed on this instance of Windows XP, just copy the HTML files into C:\inetpub\wwwroot and visit http://localhost/.html.

That being said, this is only an issue if the client needs to make network requests back to the server. IronPython could check if it's running from the filesystem and not fail so early. If this bug if fixed, then just opening the file directly will work for simple scenarios.

I'm on Windows XP SP3, Silverlight 4.0, IE 8.0 and Chrome 5.0

I noticed in your demo you started a server... does it have to be served by a webserver? Can't I just open the html file with my browser from the local machine and get it to work?

@Jeff conceptually the browser is hijacked by javascript. Beyond the current limitation it's important to move to a language agnostic browser sharing a common VM. I think LLVM is doing something in this direction.

beautiful stuff, whats the interop with Javascript like.. can you easily pass objects via json back and forth nicely? the dom interaction looks nice and doesn't seem to have any obvious gotchas.
